Ross has been involved in finance and investment out of the City of London throughout his working life.

Ross started City life managing treasury dealing operations at Samuel Montagu & Co, a London Merchant Bank (subsequently Midland Montagu Investment Bank), before leaving to join Exco International PLC in London to help develop the expansion of its asset financing operations in the early 1980s. While at Exco he negotiated the acquisition of the money market operations of RFA Arthur & Co, a Sydney based stockbroker (now Tullet Prebon) and launched the development of asset financing operations in Sydney in a joint venture with the US firm of Babcock & Brown.

This joint venture was the first to arrange long term lease finance of trains for NSW Railways.

In the mid-1980s Ross backed by a Scandinavian commercial bank founded McAuley Dennehy and Tolley (MDT) a London based structured finance, asset financing and investment group.

The group specialises in financing capital projects and providing corporate finance advice for companies operating railway franchises in the UK and Europe. Ross has structured and arranged the financing of aircraft, ships, satellites, rolling stock and commercial property while launching various bond issues for European banks. Ross retired from McAuley Dennehy and Tolley in 2008 and now manages private investment portfolios.
